State Champs

My high school has been so bad at football since the 60's, but this weekend we found a way to win the state title. We have always had good athletes, but there was always a bad coach or something that stopped the success of our program. This year it was the opposite. Our team was usually undersized, but had a great coach and program backing them. We had a few athletes but many of the kids were just hard working and played with their heads. Coach Bush, a former Syracuse coach, has took our program from a no name to state champs.....he has done the same in other states and was not sure what would happen coming to New York. Either way, congrats WG and keep it up.

About time..

This weekend was an about time kinda weekend. I have been hunting all season with the worst luck, but this weekend I bagged my first white tail. Not huge but its venison. Also it was about that time of year again where I had to work with my uncle and cousin to set up the Christmas tree farm. We have been planting trees since I was five and selling since I was 15 or so so by now I am used to it, but its still a pain getting it done every year. I look forward to working on the weekends because I get to see my cousin who is like a brother to me and who doesn't want to make money? It is not hard work but tis long days...o well gotta buy x-mas gifts some how.

I feel home

Nothing makes me feel more at home then being around my friends. The times we have are unforgettable and nothing is more fun then just spending time with them. My girlfriend and I have the same group of friends which makes things even better. I look forward to the laughs and good times I will have in the next week or so and can not wait to see them all again over x-mas break....should get interesting.

YET ANOTHER DEBATE

So it was Peyton or Tom now its Terrell or Randy. This weeks NFL debate is about the receivers. New England's Randy Moss or Dallas's Terrell Owens. It has been said that both have had a lack of team spirit and will to preform within a team, but this year both are shining on and off the field. Both are having outstanding seasons..possibly record breaking and both are staying out of the negative side of the news.....can you ask for more?
Randy Moss...6'4", 210 lbs, and 10 years expedience. Through 12 games Moss has 75 receptions for 1,129 yards and 17 touch downs...a great season for many, but moss still has 4 games to add to those mind blowing stats. The Patriots are 12-0 with no slowing down in sight.
Terrell Owens...6'3", 218 lbs, and 12 years experience. Through 12 games Owens has 71 receptions for 1,249 yards and 14 touch downs. Again a great season for some but Owens will surly add to those stats. The Cowboys are 11-1 through 12 weeks and seem to be the favorite in their conference.
Clearly, there are few differences among these future hall of famers, but they are there. Both seem to have escaped their negative attitudes, winning will do that, but Moss seems to be on a better track. Smiling, encouraging, and putting in 100% at all times. True, Owens has also come from under the dark cloud, but it seems that he could slide back into the dark as quick as he emerged. Athletically, both Owens and Moss are gifted. Number one receivers and go to guys, but Moss is the classic definition of "Throw it up and I'll go get it." Granted Owens is a better target across the middle and may or may not have the deep ball mentality, but whats better a short fade to the empty corner of the end zone or a forced ball into the clogged middle? This seems to be the major difference and for that reason I would be inclined to take Moss before Owens if I was in the suit and tie.

CORTACA

So this weekend was Cortaca and it was full of fun. My friends from high school came up, plus all my roommates had friends up so there were 15 people in my suite. Not much sleeping room, but plenty of laughs. I had not seen one of my friends sense school started so it was good to hang out with him. We chilled in our suite for a lot of the weekend eating chips and drinking soda...it made for a long day. We headed out both friday and saturday to meet up with some other people. It was overall a great weekend and I can not wait to get home and see them all again.

colts or pats

So the ultimate game of our time took place this weekend....undefeated colts...undefeated pats. So the ultimate question was asked....who is better? It was proven on the field..at least that day that the pats are better as a team...but it is left to debate...Peyton or Tom? In my opinion I'd be proud to have either on my team, but I would have to say Brady is the best. Stats are about the same on all levels give or take a bit, but Brady has the intangibles. Sure Peyton can audible and control his team, but isn't that what the quarterback is supposed to do? Brady on the other hand also has the up most respect and control of his team, but almost always finds a way to win....ahead by 30 or down by 12. He just has the indescribable character and attributes of a winner. After all is the point of the game to rack up stats or to win the game??????

Outdoors

So this weekend I got to go home again which was nice...made it even better that i got to go hunting. Unfortunately I did not kill anything, but I got to see some people I have not in a long time and it was a great weekend. I had some of the best experiences in the woods I've ever had. 15 yards from a buck walking straight at me on ground level....not bad. I also got to hunt some land that I have never been on before. It looked promising but none of us got anything...that was disappointing....either way good weekend and look forward to doing it again...with a little better result.

Birthday

So its just under a week until my birthday. Should be interesting. I am going to be 20 which is good but I'm not sure how excited I am about it. It is right before the brilliant age of 21 , but old enough to be like damn I'm growing up. Its been a long 20 years but I am proud of every moment. It should be an interesting night....night before Halloween and my birthday...could get a little out of control. But either way I realize that I am growing up and I gotta make sure i got my life under control.....not with out having fun though.

CANS

So as I have talked about before I play club soccer and it is time for us to raise some money. We have decided to do a bottle drive in support of the Grass Roots Soccer organization. This organization takes professional soccer players to Africa to speak on sex education and and the AIDS issues there. As you may know or not, Southern Africa has the highest population of AIDS cases and deaths anywhere in the world. Half of our collections will be sent to Africa and half will be kept for our organization. So if anyone has cans or bottles or would like to make a contribution though themselves or house just let me know....figured I would get the word out.

Crazy College Football.

So I do not know how many of you have been paying attention to the college athletic scene, but I did not realize basketball had started already. Not literally , but a number of these football games have been high scoring and what has happened to the powerhouses? So many of the honored programs have fallen to less respected programs in route to a national champion ship. I guess thats why they play the games. I personally am in favor of this new change. It shows kids are going to where they want to go to school just not for sports. Recruiting is a whole new ball game and it is leveling the playing field. This brings me to another point.....PLAYOFFFFF SYSTEM. This BCS stuff is garbage. As we will come to see this year...I have a feeling an undeserving team may take the place of a much more deserving one. This is not a nock at the smaller undefeated teams. But 9 out of 10 times an LSU is going to beat a Kentucky. So if the system is based on power rankings and such we should see the power houses there. I do not agree with this , but it is the system we have. Either way I can not wait to watch the rest of the season and I am pumped for basketball to really start.

Weekend home

So I am sure many of you went home this weekend as I did. It is always good to go home, but to tell you the truth this time I did not really want to. I just wasn't in the mood, I felt like there was just going to be to much drama at home. But anyways I did go home and I am glad. Thursday was my moms birthday so I clearly had to be there for that. It was simple , but a good change of pace. Friday I went to see my cousins and aunt and uncle and ended up spending the rest of the weekend there. They are like my second family. My cousin and I hunted all weekend. Ended up being a good weekend for him but I wasn't so lucky. It was still a good experience. Saturday night I spent some time with my girlfriend which is always good. I got back to school late Sunday and I was just ran down. I relaxed with the roommates for a little while then just went to bed....overall a solid weekend.

Monday Night Football

So tonight is the long awaited Monday night game in Buffalo. To bad they are having a bad season so far and they have the cowboys this week. But either way it is cool. I have been a Buffalo fan sense I was born and a couple of my buddies are going up to the studio for Monday night football...wish I could be there. O well. But two of my roommates are die hard cowboys fans so it should make the game more interesting. But I gotta go get this portfolio done so that I can have the rest of the night for the game...

FALLLL

Before I begin just wanted to let the faithful readers know I'm back in action gambling again.

Aside from that I am excited it is fall...granted it is 75 degrees out but none the less it is fall. October through early December is my favorite part of the year. First because I have always played soccer and that is when the season takes place. Second because I love the outdoors and what better time to be in the woods then a nice fall day. I hunt fish and camp from time to time so clearly I'm gonna love the fall. Finally, there is nothing better, other then that clear spring day when you feel amazing, then a clear crisp fall day. It smells like nature and everything has life. Leaves are changing people are active and the best begins just before everyone settles down for winter. With out a doubt the fall is the best time of the year for me....whats yours?

weekend

So this weekend I went to UB to visit some of my best friends...it was good to see them because I have not in about a month. Two of my friends and myself surprised our buddies and began a fun weekend. Friday night we all caught up had a little fun out on the town. Saturday morning we said goodbye to two of our friends because they had to go back to school for their football game. That kinda sucked but o well see them soon. Saturday was a bit more low key...watched college football and had a slower night...still good times.....overall great weekend.
Sunday was a long drive back to school, but once here I just watched football and sat in my bed....good stuff. THANK GOD THE BILLS FINALLY WON. jets are so bad if they loose to the bills. My buddy was a the game and he is a huge bills fan so i was happy for him...overall a great weekend...

SOOOOO BAD

So in this day and age gambling is an everyday or at least very often occurrence for many people. I do not have the money or the balls to invest in big time gambling but I enjoy playing cards and going to the casino every now and then . recently I invested a small amount of money in to online poker. I figured what the hell not a big deal if i loose it and if I win all the better for me. I started off winning a couple small tournaments and doubled my account, but it was quickly down hill from there. I did not money in three straight tournaments and then i got lucky...real lucky and won another. From there my account again took a large blow and I was left with only enough for a small tournament for my account. Finally, I took a huge blow in my final tourney and lost all of my winnings with only 4 people left. So clearly I am not the best gambler, but I am convinced online gambling is fixed in some way or another.....over the past couple days I have witnessed so many bad beats.....people that should not even be in hands taken down the pot....its ridiculous. I have learned it is better to invest into something that you can control rather then a simple game of luck...or controlled luck for that matter.

Time to do nothing

We have been here for about a month now and its getting to be that time where I loose motivation. I have always been a good student, not the best but good, and i seem to fall into these slumps. Not to mention the 4 page paper we have due this week isn't helping much. I am trying to make myself stay focused but I'm beat and feel like doing nothing. At this point anything sounds better then doing work. Fifa, movies, football, and sleep are pretty much what I enjoy at this point. I will pick it up though I gotta stay focused....I'm sure a lot of people feel the same.

I have not been home yet sense being here and I'm trying to keep it that way..its not that I hate home I am just having fun being here. After the next two or three weeks I will be home every weekend. I hunt so that will give me something to look forward to going home.

BILLS

Sports have always been a huge part of my life...watching and playing. I think, and I feel that many could agree, that college athletics are more enjoyable to watch then professional. It seems that college athletics are more intense and there is a true drive to win and love for the sport. I feel that many, not all, professional sports and athletes lack the desire to win. But of all professional sport leagues I think that the NFL is the best run and most respected.
My favorite NFL team is the Buffalo Bills, and although they are haven a horrible start to the year I gotta stay strong. Week one we lost on a last second field goal to the Broncos and week to ended with a killing at the hands of the Steelers. But either way I will continue to watch and cheer for my team.

BLAHHHHHHH

So usually I have a very strong immune system, but for some reason as soon as I hit Cortland's campus it disappears. I have been here for two and a half weeks and I have been sick for a week of it. I only get sick 4 or 5 times each year but at least three of them are while I'm on Cortland's campus. It just makes going to classes and dragging the day out so much harder.
Another thing I do not get is the amount of work I have had already. Last year I hardly had to do any work except before tests and final papers. This year I have had at least an hour of work every night sense the first day. It is not that it is hard work it just takes up time and frustrates me.
But enough of my bitching I am still glad I am here and everyday is fun even though the work sucks.

Soccer

I have been involved in sports for most of my life and active sense I was born. I began to play soccer when I was in 2nd grade and that carried all the way through senior year of high school. It was a great chance to meet people and build bonds with others. After high school I planned to play college soccer at a different school , but those plans fell through. I came to Cortland out of shape and little interest in playing here, but soon the inner drive was sparked again. So along with my buddy from high school I tried out for the club soccer team. It was a good chance be competitive and get athletics back in my life.
I eventually made the team and this past weekend we had are first game. It ended in a one-one draw, but it was great to be back on the field. I realized how out of shape I was and it sparked the interest to run a bit more. So maybe this is good in more then one way.

96 Lincoln

So we have been looking for off campus housing for next year and it is not as easy as I thought it would be. We contacted a bunch of land lords, but few seemed to be interested in selling us a house. I think this was because it was 5 guys looking for a house and they would have preferred to sell it to girls. But in the end we did find a couple of houses to go through. They were all nice but we decided to commit to the house on 96 Lincoln....It was the cheapest we could find and it was only a year old.
It feels weird to be looking for a house. It makes you think about how old you are getting. I remember when i was younger I could not wait to get my own house and now that its here its a little scary. There are bills, food, and other needs that we must take care of.
But even with all of that I can not wait to move in....its going to be the best year of my life to date.

Un-able to stay awake??

It is safe to say that a number of SUNY Cortland students attempt to find a member of the opposite sex to hang out with from time to time. This is a normal human process and is not shameful at all, but what I don't understand is once you find that special person to spend some alone time with....why fall asleep??
This happened twice this weekend. Two of my roommates brought back respectable girls that seemed to be cool. One of my roommates....who's name I will disclose( but is known as a G) decided to invite his friend back, but before he could spend some time with her he felt the need to eat everything in our room. By the time he had finished a bag of popcorn,a cup of soup, and a bag of pop-tarts he was to sleepy to roll over and conversate....he simply went to sleep like a little baby. To make it even worse... the following night another one of my roommates decided to do almost the same thing. He also brought back a girl that seemed to be very nice....but before we knew it....he had already wrestled three rounds with her and we found him passed out with "socko" in his mouth.
I just don't understand this....young men( One of which is a G) and two pretty girls....why go to sleep so early???? It is funny...but is this the quality I will see from my roommates all year?

Welcome Back

Welcome back everyone. It’s good to be back and getting into the swing of things. Now that I don’t have to worry about anyone telling me what to do, life is a lot less stressful. We can all come and go as we please and do what we want….life is good. I got back on campus Saturday morning; it was good to see my suit mates. We instantly clicked again and began to have fun. We hung out a bit and then went out that night together and we quickly realized how fun this year would be.

Reality hit Monday morning when we all woke up early to see that as much fun as we would be having, there was a lot of work to do. I already have readings and small assignments for every class I have attended this week, and I can see that this year won’t be as easy as last.

Finally, I wanted to comment on this class. We are all forced to be here and I’m sure most of you are interested in this blog as little as I am. It is a different way to do some writing then most of us are used to, but it adds to the time we must spend on this class. Even so I appreciate the effort of a professor to make a class more hands on and interactive. He is allowing us time to express ourselves and not have to write and think about things we don’t care about. I guess having to do this isn’t so bad after all.
